In my over 20 years as a music producer/ label owner and over 27 years as a sneaker lover, I have very few “personal” examples of people who have shown an impressive level of dedication, love, and skill in regard to both music and kicks. The examples barely cover both hands.
Fresh Daily is one of those who is my example! Always true to himself regarding his music direction and his fashion sense. Fresh is also a skilled graphic designer (for hire) as well. I enjoy hearing what his latest and greatest is all about, because I know it’s something HE wanted to do.
He and I last worked together a couple of years ago on the title track to OSD Presents..”Know You Got Sole: The Music” where he did the “Joe Namath guarantee” that he would indeed have my title track on smash once I hit him with the beat! Peep the album and Fresh’s song here so you can decide for yourself”. Thank You Fresh!!
Well Fresh Daily is back with his new project called “The Brooklyn Good Guy” which was done in collaboration with Footaction and Converse. It was recorded at Converse’s Rubber Tracks Studio in Brooklyn, New York. The project is available for free download and streaming audio on his site, along with behind the scenes video footage. So check it HERE!
I caught up with Fresh to ask him a few questions in light of this release. Enjoy, support his music, and visit his site often. He has tons of content baked “Fresh Daily” (I know.. cheesy, but for this interview it works…LOL)
How did this project come about?
Working hard at being a good emcee brought some cool people in my life. Some people at Complex and Converse happened to be working together on a project. It so happened that when they thought of an emcee they liked and knew, it was me.
Who should be listening to this project?
Anyone with ears who can hear and appreciate good music.
How long have you been into kicks? What sneaker got you hooked?
I’ve been into kicks since I was about 11 years old. I remember wanting the Ewings when they dropped. The sneakers that got me hooked were the Nike Dunks. I couldn’t find the ones I wanted to buy so I bought Nike’s Ace ’83′s in 2 color ways. Once I found the Dunks I wanted I bought 4 pairs in different flavors. 2 of them were SB’s first runs, fat tongue and round laces. I used to be a big fan of giant, clunky high top kicks like the Air Force 3 and Air Force 2 and Air Force 1 Highs with the strap also, but of late I really like mids and low kicks.
As you’ve gotten older how has your taste in kicks changed?
I tend to like clean, classic, solid, tonal colorways and silhouettes now. Whereas before I’d go for bolder colorways and flashier silhouettes.
What’s poppin’ for the near future that we should be tuned in for?
More music, events, artwork and collabos. Definitely more of my collective, The Brooklyn Good Guys! Hit my site as often as you can http://freshdailymc.com
Shout outs…Benamin, Converse, Rubber Tracks Studio, The Brooklyn Good Guy and Jenna.
I appreciate you as always Fresh. Best of everything with this project and all other endeavors.
